OUR METHOD

Why the Avery Prep approach works

Five pillars that turn raw effort into measurable score gains — built around your student’s specific gaps.

01

Diagnostics before anything else

We identify exactly what’s costing points before writing the plan. Not a general review — a targeted attack on the right things.

02

Content + strategy, taught together

Students learn the reading, grammar, and math skills they need — plus the test-specific strategies to ace each question.

03

Built to hold under pressure

Neuroscience-backed retention methods so what students learn in session transfers to the actual test — not just practice problems.

04

Timed practice from early on

We simulate real test conditions early so pacing and accuracy become muscle memory — not last-minute scrambling.

05

Krystyna reviews every plan, weekly

This is the differentiator. Leadership oversight means the plan adjusts in real time — not at the next session when it’s too late.

The result

A student who doesn’t just know the content — but executes under pressure, on the day that matters.

“Krystyna and her tutors have this down to an absolute science — methodical, precise, and effective. My son wanted to improve his score to 1500 on the SAT. Even with only 4 weeks before the exam, they quickly got a plan together and he exceeded his goal by 30 points.”

— Ashley Murphy, parent of SAT student who scored 1530

STRUCTURE

What tutoring actually looks like

Most students meet 1–2x per week. Sessions aren’t passive — every hour is purposeful, and between-session work keeps momentum going.

  • Targeted instruction on the specific skills costing the most points
  • Timed practice sets with immediate, detailed review
  • Test-taking strategy that reduces avoidable errors
  • Between-session practice assignments calibrated to the plan — not busywork

Sessions are structured differently depending on where the student is in their prep cycle — earlier sessions focus more on skills, later ones on full-length timed sets and pacing.

Sample Weekly Rhythm

(What this looks like in practice — varies by student and by week)

  • Sessions shift based on what will move the score most that week
  • Some weeks lean into skill gaps; others into timing, pacing, and execution
  • Mistakes are tracked and used to guide what happens next — not repeated blindly
  • Between-session work is assigned to support the plan

A clear plan — refined weekly using real performance data.

TIMING

When should you start?

The answer depends on where your student is — but earlier almost always means better results and less stress.

Ideal: summer after Sophomore year

Maximum time to build skills, run diagnostics, take the test, and retake if needed — without it hanging over junior year.

Starting as a Junior or Senior? Still worth it.

Many of our strongest results come from students who start later and go all-in. We’ll build a compressed plan around your test date.

FAQ

Questions worth asking

If something isn’t answered here, ask us directly, no pressure.

We recommend running a diagnostic on both before committing. Some students naturally score higher on one test — if that’s the case, the choice is easy. For students where the scores are close, it comes down to preference: the SAT tends to reward methodical thinkers, the ACT rewards speed and breadth. Having done both practice tests, most students have a gut sense of which one felt better.

Not at all. Families come to us all the time after a first test — including after time with other tutors that didn’t lead to the score they wanted.

A prior SAT doesn’t give us more useful data than a full diagnostic, but it does mean your student knows what the real test feels like. From there, we run our own diagnostics to identify exactly where points are being lost and build a plan around your timeline.

It depends on the student and the timeline. There isn’t a fixed amount — but meaningful score improvement does require consistent work between sessions.

We prioritize everything we assign, so students know exactly what matters most and can use their time effectively. They won’t always finish everything — and that’s okay — but they’ll always know where to focus.

We also help students map the workload against their schedule, so the plan is realistic and actually gets executed.

Yes. Plans can be section-specific or balanced across both. If the diagnostic shows one section is clearly the bigger opportunity, we’ll focus there. If both sections need work, we’ll prioritize by impact.

Every Avery Prep tutor goes through a rigorous vetting and training process. We recruit experienced tutors from around the country with strong academic backgrounds and a proven record of results. From there, tutors are trained in the methods Krystyna has developed over the last 15 years to help students reach perfect and near-perfect scores. Our team participates in ongoing professional development, receives regular observation and feedback, and continues learning directly from Krystyna.
