OUR METHOD

Why the Avery Prep approach works for HSPT

The HSPT covers a broad range of content and penalizes both slow pacing and careless errors. We address both — from a real baseline, not a generic starting point.

01

Baseline assessment first

We assess across all HSPT sections before prescribing a plan — so prep targets actual gaps, not assumed ones.

02

Math, verbal, and reading reinforcement

Content instruction targeted to the student’s current level and the specific demands of the HSPT format.

03

Pacing strategy and timed practice

Systematic pacing work so your student doesn’t lose points to time pressure or second-guessing.

04

Confidence under test conditions

Regular timed practice builds the calm accuracy that shows up on test day — not just in low-stakes drills.

05

Consistent weekly momentum

Steady progress over time outperforms last-minute cramming. We build the habit of consistent improvement.

The result

A student who walks into the HSPT prepared, paced, and genuinely ready — not just hoping it goes well.

“We never felt behind. The plan kept us on track the whole way through.”

— Parent of HSPT student

STRUCTURE

What tutoring actually looks like

Most students meet 1–2x per week with focused practice between sessions.

  • Targeted content instruction in math, verbal, and reading sections
  • Timed practice sets with review of pacing and errors
  • Strategy work — skipping, educated guessing, and managing test anxiety
  • Between-session assignments that build momentum without overloading the student

Session structure adapts as prep progresses — earlier sessions focus on content gaps, later ones on full timed sections and confidence.

Sample Weekly Rhythm

  • Session 1 — Content + skills
Baseline review → targeted instruction on priority content areas
  • Between sessions (20-30 min)
Focused practice aligned to what was covered in session
  • Session 2 — Timed practice
Timed section practice → review of pacing and errors
  • Krystyna’s weekly check-in
Progress reviewed → plan adjusted, parents updated

TIMING

When should you start?

Most families benefit from 2–5 months of prep. Starting early means arriving at test day prepared — not pressured.

Ideal: 3–5 months before test date

Enough time to assess, build content knowledge, develop pacing strategies, and practice under timed conditions.

Starting with less time? Still effective.

A focused plan can produce real improvements even with 4–8 weeks. We’ll assess what’s achievable and build around your specific deadline.

FAQ

Questions worth asking

If something isn’t answered here, ask us directly. The consultation is free and there’s no pressure.

The HSPT has five sections: Verbal Skills, Quantitative Skills, Reading, Mathematics, and Language. We cover all five, prioritizing by impact based on the baseline assessment.

The HSPT produces a composite score and section scores. Schools use these differently — some weight certain sections more heavily. We’ll factor in the specific schools you’re applying to when building the plan.

Typically 20–30 minutes of focused practice between sessions. Every assignment is purposeful and calibrated to the student’s current level.

Every Avery Prep tutor goes through a rigorous vetting and training process. We recruit experienced tutors from around the country with strong academic backgrounds and a proven record of results. From there, tutors are trained in the methods Krystyna has developed over the last 15 years to help students reach perfect and near-perfect scores. Our team participates in ongoing professional development, receives regular observation and feedback, and continues learning directly from Krystyna.
