OUR METHOD

Why the Avery Prep approach works for LSAT

Most LSAT students plateau because they repeat the same mistakes. Our approach breaks that cycle — starting with a tight error analysis before anything else.

01

Baseline + scoring pattern analysis

We identify exactly where points are being lost before prescribing anything — not a generic curriculum applied to everyone.

02

Targeted drilling by question type

LR and RC question types drilled specifically until accuracy becomes reliable, not random.

03

Error log + review process

A structured review system so mistakes stop repeating. This is where most self-studiers lose ground — we build the habit explicitly.

04

Timed sections with strategy refinement

Timed practice early enough to build endurance and pacing — so timing pressure doesn’t undo accuracy work.

05

Retention-focused methods

Techniques that make improvements hold under real test pressure — not just during practice.

The result

A student whose score on test day reflects what they actually know — and who can reproduce it consistently.

“The error log changed everything. We stopped repeating the same mistakes and the score finally moved.”

— LSAT student

STRUCTURE

What tutoring actually looks like

Most LSAT students meet 1–2x per week with focused work between sessions — calibrated to timeline and target score.

  • Question-type specific drilling with immediate, detailed review
  • Error log work — identifying patterns and building the habit of not repeating them
  • Timed section sets with strategy refinement
  • Between-session practice assignments tied directly to what was covered in session

Session structure shifts as test date approaches — earlier sessions emphasize accuracy and question-type mastery, later ones build to full timed sections and endurance.

Sample Weekly Rhythm

  • Session 1 — Question drilling
Error log review → targeted drilling on highest-impact question types
  • Between sessions (45-60 min)
Focused question sets and error log update aligned to session work
  • Session 2 — Timed practice
Timed sections → deep review of errors and timing patterns
  • Weekly check-in
Progress reviewed → plan adjusted, accountability that keeps momentum going

TIMING

When should you start?

LSAT prep takes time to compound. The earlier the start, the more room there is to build accuracy before adding speed.

Ideal: 4–6 months before test date

Enough time to build accuracy section by section, run full timed tests, and refine strategy before the score counts.

Starting with less time? Still very much worth it.

We’ve worked with students with 6–8 weeks of runway and seen meaningful improvement. A compressed plan is different — but it can be effective.

“The structure made all the difference. I’d been self-studying for months and going in circles. Having a plan — and someone reviewing it weekly — finally got my score moving.

The error log process was what I’d been missing. Once I stopped repeating the same question-type mistakes, the score jumped.

Questions worth asking

Yes — your LSAT score cannot be released unless you have a valid LSAT Writing sample on file. LSAC requires a completed LSAT Argumentative Writing sample within the reportable score period before your score will be sent to schools.

Prep should now emphasize high-accuracy Logical Reasoning with a repeatable review method, Reading Comprehension passage approach and timing discipline, and timed sections early enough to build endurance. The section distribution has shifted — your prep approach should reflect that.

A tight error log and review system so mistakes stop repeating, question-type specific drilling, timed sections with targeted review, and confidence under time pressure — accuracy first, then speed. The review process is where most self-studiers fall short, so we build it explicitly.

Most LSAT students do 1–2 sessions per week, depending on timeline and target score. Between-session work is essential — sessions are most effective when students come in having completed the assigned practice.

For many students, yes — a real test result gives us a much clearer picture of where you lost points than a practice diagnostic alone. We’ll assess whether retaking makes sense and what a realistic improvement looks like.
